HIS EMINENCE, CHAIRMAN BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND VERDICT COMMITTEE PARTICIPATES IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WAQF AT MALAISIA

The International Conference on Waqf organised by Al-Madinah International University of Malaysia has taken off on Monday 11 November, 2019 at Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, with a heavy attendance comprising of government officials in the country and abroad. The opening session witnessed thought provoking presentations on the significance of Islamic endowment. On her part, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs in Malaysia declared during her presentation that the Malaysian government has exempted all Waqf funded projects from tax and levy.

 Also, His Royal Highness, Dr Bundur Salman Ᾱl-Saud who is the Board of Trustee Chairman and Chancellor of the university expressed his determination to found an Endowment Fund in favour of the university and made a donation of 193,000 US dollars to that effect. The Sultan of Sokoto in Nigeria respectively pressed for Nigeria to host the coming conference on Waqf in a bid to develop the sector in the region and gain from the experience of Muslim-Arabia nations across the globe. While delivering his speech, the Special Adviser to the Saudi’s King and a member of the Council of Elder Scholars, Prof. Sa’d  Shithri stressed the importance of tapping from the experience of the Kingdom on Waqf by governments and relevant institutions and commended the leading academic role being displayed by the university in the spreading of knowledge and research development with modern technology. He pledged to convey what he saw in the conference to the King.

 The conference is well attended by more than 500 participants across various Muslim and non- Muslim nations. Senegal is being represented in the conference by the Chairman, Senegal Zakat Trust Fund, Prof. Ahmad Luh who presented an academic paper on endowment: the experience of West Africa.
